Manchester Roller Derby fans will be treated to two exciting games on Saturday 30 May at George H Carnall in Urmston, as their ladies B-Team take on Sheffield while the men go up against Ireland’s national squad.
New Wheeled Order face a challenge pitting themselves against Ireland’s National Men’s squad, who were ranked 10th at the last World Cup. The Irish squad is made up of the best male Irish roller derby players in the world, and whilst most of them will be coming over the Irish Sea this Saturday, the shortest commute will be for New Wheeled Order captain Lt Damn, who’ll be swapping green for more green and leading Ireland into battle against his own team mates.
Ireland will be refining their game ahead of the 2016 World Cup in Calgary, Canada, but will they be any match for the Mancunians? New Wheeled Order recently performed better than predicted against heavy hitters Toulouse, and several of the squad will be eager to impress after recently making it through to the second stage of England’s national try outs. We know from past experience that neither are a team to be under estimated, and the outcome of Saturday’s game is anyone’s guess.
Saturday will also see The Furies, who recently shot up the rankings after an incredible 146 point win over Belfast B, against Sheffield Steel’s B Team The Crucibelles. Furies have the home advantage and are pipped to scrape a win, but the Belles will be coming out of a six month break from public bouting with teeth bared and no doubt a few new tricks up their sleeve.
