Started skating: Feb 2012
Position: Blocker, Pivot
Favourite skate gear: My SISU 1.6mm mouthguard. It’s definitely saved my face a few times, which pleases my parents. I’m gobby and loud on and off the track and being able to enunciate my consonants is pretty useful as well!
Career highlight so far: Captaining the Furies vs Evolution bout in September 2012. I saw what we’d been working on actually come to fruition and get put into action. Everyone bonded and loved each other and kept their nerves under control and played to the max. That wasn’t the first time I’ve cried because of derby, but it’s definitely the happiest.
Hobbies/interests outside of roller derby? I love knitting, but I will not be making you anything. I’m also a cracking cook and if repping Team Canada at the next world cup doesn’t work out, I’m going to go on MasterChef and then The Great British Bakeoff, then replace Giles Coren as Sue Perkins’ partner in themed food tv. I will cook you anything if you ask politely.
One thing most people don’t know about me: I’ll tell you two truths and a lie: My birth was attended by the Mounties in a city so far in the north of Canada that it once featured in an episode of Ice Road Truckers. My pack work is practically instinctive because I was raised by wolves. I hate mayonnaise.
What’s the origin of your derby name? Please see the attached photograph.
Have you had any serious injuries? Three broken legs in sessions I was helping coach, so I’m pretty good at writing incident reports and lying about whether someone’s foot is pointing the same direction as their knee. Then I sprained my ankle by falling on myself so that I could empathize properly.
