Started skating: January 2012
Position: Blocker, Jammer
Favourite skate gear: My Riedell 495 boots are amazing – they’re like wearing slippers! They’re the perfect fit for me, and definitely help my agility. I also love my sparkly silver S-One Lifer helmet – it keeps my brain safe but looks great too!
Best moment so far: The best bout so far has to be when the Furies flew out to Belfast and took home a huge win. The crowd was mostly made up of our friends and family, so the atmosphere was amazing! The whole weekend was a lovely team bonding experience. What most people would probably call my career highlight was the time I managed to Hulk out of my shirt mid-scrim against York a few years ago. That’ll teach me to try and customise my own shirts with ribbon-corseted sides… “
Hobbies/interests outside of roller derby? Honestly, I need to stop picking up extra hobbies! I love doing aerial arts (dangling from hoops, trapezes and aerial silks) when I get the chance, and I am always sewing, knitting or painting when I’m at home – I can’t just sit still. Oh, and I do yoga in the comfort of my own room, where no one can see me fall over…
What’s the origin of your derby name? I studied Geology and I have been obsessed with volcanoes since I was a kid. Pyroclastic flows are clouds of ash and rock that travel downhill from a volcano. They are incredibly hot, extremely fast and very deadly – fitting for a derby name, no? My number, 64, is the minimum size (in mm) for material ejected from a volcano to be classed as a volcanic BOMB. I guess I was hoping my name would help me be a little more explosive on track!
