New Wheeled Order
Number: 8055
Started skating: 1980
Position: Blocker
Favourite skate gear: BONT boots – Hybrids custom as they are a perfect fit, the carbon base gives a perfect feel for my skating control and they are incredibly light. On my second pair. 187 Knee pads – Perfect fit for me and have served me well. On my second pair.
Derby heroes: Quadzilla – for all round awesomeness
Abe Drinkin – for masterful control of his pack and team
Mr Furieux – for absolute talent and ability. World class skater.
And the Girls:
Missy Rascal – Just incredible and fully loaded with talent…
Dee-mise – So influential in the pack and often has the last say on the defensive line.
Randi Razorlegs – What an inspirational skater with great talent and an insatiable desire to learn and boy look at how much she has learned…
Career highlight so far: Well NWO vs NYSE in 2012 in Manchester was the most incredible bout. Having the absolute pleasure of skating with my team mates against arguably the best team in the world! We did incredibly well against an amazing team, but the moment when I went up to jam against HARM and despite me going to the box and it being the longest jam ever… I scored 20 points…. BOOM! More recently, representing Wales Men’s National Roller Derby Squad at the 2016 World Cup in Calgary and JAMMING FOR WALES!
Height: 6′ off skates.
Hobbies/interests: Well I like to do all the repairs and maintenance on my old SAAB. I have recently build a conservatory and do all the repairs around the house so DIY in general.
One thing most people don’t know about me: Oh dear this is a bit embarrassing: I used to be a body popper and break dancer and was even considered for a European tour back in the eighties! White gloves and everything. I have been on Coronation Street and Shameless as an extra with my kids.
What’s the origin of your derby name? Well I started with RCRG in 2008 and the aim for me then was to ref roller derby, not to play. The theme for the referees at the time had a brand-type relationship going on. My original idea was “Jean Paul Gator” but after many discussions I settled on “U-Go-Boss”.
Have you had any serious injuries? No breaks or fractures thankfully, but have sustained a few ligament injuries to shoulders and knees as well as tissue damage to the ribs which hurt like hell.
